Rick Broadbent is a sports writer for The Times, for whom he has covered the Olympics, the World Cup, the Champions League Final, the Ryder Cup, Wimbledon, Six Nations Rugby and a variety of motorsports. His most recent book, Endurance: The Life and Times of Emil Zatopek is published by Bloomsbury and has been shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award. Rick has several books to his name. He collaborated with motorcycle legend Ron Haslam on his autobiography Rocket Men (Bantam Press) and Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson on Seize The Day (Hodder & Stoughton). He is also the sole author of three further books: The Big If: The Life and Death of Johnny Owen(Macmillan), Looking For Eric (Mainstream) and Ring of Fire: The Inside Story of Valentino Rossi and MotoGP (Bantam Press, July 2009). Rick’s That Near Death Thing: Inside the Most Dangerous Race in the World, was published in June 2012 and was shortlisted for the William Hill Sports Book of the Year. Rick’s first children’s book Sports Legends: 50 Inspiring People to Help You Reach the Top of Your Game is published by Walker Books in June 2021.
