Gareth Timmins is a former Royal Marines Commando and ex-Director of Leadership Programmes and Operations at The Halcyon Club – a high-performance retreat in the Lake District designed for elite thinkers and corporate leaders.
A bestselling author of two acclaimed books on mindset, high-pressure leadership, cognitive restructuring, and rapid decision-making. Gareth now works as a consultant and performance strategist, helping people and organisations cut through chaos, rethink how they lead, and unpick the mental baggage that limits performance.
His journey through elite sport, military operations, and cognitive science has shaped a grounded yet counter-intuitive perspective on human behaviour and optimisation. Gareth challenges conventional notions of resilience – advocating instead for cognitive endurance and cycling as sustainable models for maintaining high performance without psychological cost.
He is currently undertaking PhD research within the Professional Doctoral Academy at the University of Huddersfield, exploring performance and decision-making in high-stakes environments – bridging elite operational experience with behavioural and cognitive science. His research examines intuitive, experience-based decision-making, leadership, and resilience under pressure, aiming to develop evidence-based models applicable across defence, policing, emergency services, and other critical sectors.
Gareth has previously contributed to the University of Surrey Business School, enriching its MSc in Entrepreneurial Thinking through his interpretation of fear and decision-making under stress. His consultancy clients include North East Counter Terrorism Policing, KIA Motors, OBE, and Leeds Rhinos, among others.
