David Tossell

David Tossell is the author of 21 sports books. He has been short-listed seven times in the British Sports Book Awards and three times for the MCC/Cricket Society Book of the Year. Among his titles are biographies of Jimmy Greaves, Alan Ball, Garry Sobers, Tony Greig, Malcolm Allison and Tommy Docherty; the stories of the 1970s Wales rugby team, the 1953 FA Cup final and the Arsenal double season of 1971; and recreations of the iconic 1974-75 England cricket tour of Australia and the 1976 West Indies tour of England. Beginning his journalism career on local newspapers, he became executive sports editor of the Today newspaper before embarking on a 26-year stint at the National Football League, where he was Director of Public Affairs (Europe). Now retired, his latest book, a biography of boxer Joe Bugner, is published by Pitch in September 2026.
